The friendly atmosphere, beautiful beach scenery, nice Lippo shopping mall in the town with Matahari dept. store, and many others, nice traditional food, and Kaki Lima has beautiful traditional restaurants facing the sea. The people who do not like hot weather might find it is too hot, but there is air conditioning in the car, hotels, and the mall, Only less than 2 hours, 1 hour 40 minutes from Denpasar Ngurah Rai Airport. On this trip I had Telkomsel data so I could use Grab app. This was a great way to get around town cheaply and safely. I went to the Aroma Resto which is a chain restaurant that served delicious smoked pork. As a solo traveller I found it safe to walk around at night, many food places open until late.

It’s still not a tourist place.
It’s still not a tourist place. The main hotels on the foreshore are ok but there is very little to see and do. Being a westerner, I couldn’t get a sense of the ‘city’. It was very dry and looked thirsty and tired. I booked the wrong airport by mistake, that’s how we got there, and I wouldn’t recommend it for more than a overnight hop through.

Like the greenery in town and the small hills in town. Working in Timor Leste so it was nice to visit Kupang for shopping and different restaurants. Not much to do or no tourist things. Good prices. Very few white people there and it was sweet how the kids watch you, so I would go over and high 5 them. In return they give you big smiles, very adorable. Good place for a couple days but not much longer. Unfortunately 3 times people tried to take advantage and over charge you. Good place to go to for a Visa run from Timor leste.

It is a great getaway for those who live in Timor-Leste, as this city is pretty close to Timor yet a lot more developed and more shopping mall and entertainment places - indoor theme park in Transmart, XXI movie theatre, Natasha Skin Care, ACE Hardware, Matahari Depertment Store.. ooh you name it!. Kupang is where you can eat cheap and very tasty grilled fish - The new Kings bamboo restaurant is fantastic!! This city has lots of nice restaurants to choose - we also love the Pizza Hut and the bakery in Transmart! Many new hotels, clean and very affordable. The public transportations (microlet, taxi) also available until evening. If stay on the beach side hotels, actually the shopping mall is in the walking distance - if you don't mind having 2 km walk :) This city is also very close to Komodo Island, one of the famous tourist destination in Indonesia. Cheap flight or a ferry to get there from Kupang.
