Getting there by car is a long journey from Riyadh. The city has some well developed areas by the royal commission. Those areas are beautiful and clean and well maintained. Rest of the city is very simple and basic. Waterfronts are good and beaches are clean.

Yanbu is certainly underrated.
Yanbu is certainly underrated. It already offers a lot of great opportunities for snorkeling, diving and boat trips, as well as a nice old city center. Old city undergoing renovation work will certainly make it even better in the future. We found Yanbu people very nice and helpful.

We went for the scuba diving and no other reason, it was spectacular. We ate in local cafes, we were the only Westerners there & I was the only woman so people were curious but very friendly.
