A beautiful town, completely different from the Turkiye known by those who visit the coast. Kurdish, not Turkish, with Christian buildings going back to the fourth century and a culture that encompasses many religions and languages. A good base for a day trip (with guide) to Midyat and other local sites. Plenty of restaurants, serving wide variety of foods. Wine shops, selling local wines, but no bars in the old town.
Really wish we had read more before going. Pictures show the beautiful pale-coloured buildings climbing up the hillside but not the fact that the 'roads' are more often steps. Wonderful small narrow streets, a copper bazaar where people were at work, incredible churches, mosques and madrasas - but you need to have good hips and knees!
An excellent Hamam, open for men mornings and evenings, for women in the afternoons.
For anyone interested in early Christianity, in cultural melting pots, or in somewhere unlike most tourist towns, Mardin and Midyat, and the necropolis at Dara, the area is exceptional. Allow about four days and bring sensible shoes.
Good and cheap bus service from the airport, no need to use taxis.

This was the second time to visit Mardin, this time during a small road trip. Mardin is a place were you don not see Western people. Please do not mention it, otherwise it will ruined as other old citys. Atmosfere specicial on the market is like 200years old. Views are amazing, and most important the people.

Mardin old town is a remarkable destination - fabulous architecture, great shopping, many wonderful restaurants, and world renown historic sites nearby. We stayed at Fairouz Konak Otel, which we would highly recommend - it is a historic building in the heart of Mardin old town, within easy walking distance of many restaurants and stores, We were welcomed by our thoughtful host with delicious offerings of food and drink; he was able to answer all our questions about his city. The hotel was memorable for its charming rooms, fantastic panoramic views from many terraces, delicious breakfasts, and excellent host and staff, We highly recommend a visit to Mardin and a stay at Fairouz Konak Otel!

Mardin is one good medium city not very bussy for turists. There is one old and interesting city with a lot of loveley mosque, houses and narrow street, very different for others places from Europe. I used this location for travell to Dara and Husankyf on Tigris river.

Mardin is beautiful and ancient and wonderful.
Mardin is beautiful and ancient and wonderful. Everyone was so friendly - I never encountered even one person who wasn't kind and gracious.
I think the only down side to Mardin is all of the litter. Although I saw several workers cleaning, it seems the people of Mardin don't understand the impact of throwing you trash out the window, which I saw a lot of.
Nonetheless, I loved Mardin. The history, the people, the general feel... wonderful! I will return!

Mardin is a very interesting city in the East of Turkey.
Mardin is a very interesting city in the East of Turkey. There are a lot of places to visit for a person who loves history, culture and tasty food. People who live there are different: Turks, Kurds, Syriacs. The city is quite friendly and calm. There are a lot of must-visit places in the city center. It is also interesting to visit the close cities, like Midyat, Sanliurfa, Gobekli Tepe.
But I advice not to go in winter. This time it had started to snow right before the flight. So it was cancelled, the airport was closed for 2 days, as it was no ready for the weather somehow.
Tufan, Islam, Talia, Ceylan, and Hamdin were excellent hosts. They really made us feel at home and the breakfast was fantastic. The stone house is 900+ years old and has been thoughtfully renovated. Interestingly, the water supply is pumped from an old well beneath the property that you can see! The house is conveniently located and an excellent place to explore the rest of Mardin from. We definitely hope to return!
this hotel is a beautiful old building, it has large rooms that are impeccably clean, lovely bathroom, gorgeous terrace areas with shade, the breakfast was amazing, the lovely lady that cooked it did an amazing job, and lastly the management and staff were friendly, and were so helpful, if you are thinking of visiting Mardin I recommend you stay at this fantastic hotel, you will be very happy with it.
Great location within eski Mardin. Located right under the Ulu mosque. The home is 600 years old and very beautiful it also manages to stay cool even when it was 40 C 100 F outside! Great terrace with a Mesopotamia view. Close to all the sites and restaurants but still on a very quiet street. The host was excellent, extremely available and attentive to anything we needed.
It would be wrong to say it’s one of the best hotels in Mardin because it’s not one of the best hotels , it’s THE BEST hotel in Mardin ….
Location and accessibility is very important for this magical old town and this hotel has everything in its favour ….
If someone wants to experience a luxurious, magical experience then this is the place to be….
Very beautiful hotel with wonderful rooms and location including the terrace with a magnificent view. Own parking spot and staff that will help you with anything. The rooms are spacious and in 2 types: beautiful historical look (stone house) and modern look. The main street of historical Mardin and the historical sites are on walking distance.
The hotel was quite nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Mardin is a city that involves climbing innumerable stone steps and no elevators because it is built on rock. This made the hotel quite charming but challenging for a person with low stamina. But as everywhere in Turkey, the staff carries all your luggage up and down.
Lovely family-ran hotel that brings together the beauty of ancient space (the building is around 900 years old) and modern design with an oriental touch. Located in the heart of Old Mardin, it was a perfect place to stay.
The owners are very friendly, welcoming and ready to help with anything. The breakfast was really nice, too.
Hotel was listed as having air conditioning and parking. It had neither. Mardin in August is over 45 degrees C and the room was even hotter. The staff clearly stated that they would not charge me for the days I didn't stay (it was unbearable and I prepaid), which was a documented conversation, and they did not refund my money.
It is just amazing. Wonderful place and magical views from the terraces. The staff is lovely, they will help you with everything you need. We love Mardin and the hotel! If you go by car just ask them to send you the location of the parking and they will pick you up and help you.
Super nice hotel, in the houses of Mardin. The room was clean and the beds comfortable, rich breakfast and a great view from the terrace.
Super kind staff and they helped us for trips in the surrounding areas.
I highly recommend it!
Her șey için çok teșekkür ederiz 🤗
