To view from the room was really lovely. The room itself is very outdated and very very small. It didn’t look or match the photos on Booking.com really

Very clean, easy check in, great to be attached to Wests.
The food for dinner at Wests was fantastic, great voice and great value for money. Lovely staff there too.
Breakfast there could have been better, but not too bad.

Filthy, disgusting, mould ridden place. DO NOT BOOK HERE. Couldn’t stand the place so had to rebook at another hotel. The bathroom was full of mould, the room was dusty and there was a dead cockroach on the floor. The common area wreaked of cigarettes. This place is not 4 stars! This place stopped answering my emails about the place and finally after a month, booking.com provided me with a refund.

I live in Sydney, just 160 km / 100 miles to the South, so not exactly a traveller. Newcastle is a nice place, less frantic than Sydney. It has great beaches, lots of places to dine out suiting all budgets, a very pleasant foreshore area.

Newie has come along in leaps and bounds since my childhood in the city. The downtown area has been completely rejuvenated and has a great, hipster vibe to it that was sorely lacking in the past.
The best beaches in Australia, the best rugby league and A-League team, and world-class wineries on your back step.

As we were stuck in Newcastle and in the hospital for the majority of the three weeks we were there, I couldn't get out quick enough....but in the time that I did have spare to look around, if you get away from the industrial areas, there are many areas around the beach in Newcastle that are beautiful. If you get out towards the Hunter Valley, Warner's Bay or Nelson Bay even better.

Newcastle is a busy port on one side and a beach holiday paradise on the other. There are several points of interest, such as the fort and the lighthouse. Good walking for the fit.
From the transport interchange, there is a useful, very regular, tram (bright red) out to points along the way to these sights. Tap on tap off with your credit card, if you don’t have the local Oyster Card. We found Rydges cafe and Queens Wharf good places to take refreshment whilst watching the ships passing to pick up coal. Newcastle is the largest coal exporting port in the world and watching them move with tugs in attendance is quite relaxing while you enjoy a drink.
The museum gives a good overview of Newcastle’s development, without being too exhaustive. Entrance is free. Give it a go, as it’s next to the Information Centre who are very helpful.
From Queens Wharf there is a short ferry across to Stockton, a small town with a good view of the harbour and shipping from its local park. Take your water and sun hat but toilets are a bit thin on the ground.
I would have liked more time to explore and take photographs. Enough said!

Newcastle was great for a visit and not just because family live there. Great vibe, many cafes and shops, really nice to stroll around the town and get a feel for the place. The river waterfront was really pleasant after a hot day.

Newcastle offers some great activities.
Newcastle offers some great activities. Great beaches, the recently renovated city baths, the Bogey Hole convict dug swimming pool on the cliff edge, Fort Scratchley, Nobbys
Head and lighthouse, Newcastle Memorial Walk, museums and galleries, fabulous cafes, National Parks and weekend markets. So much to do nearby.
Unit was large, 2 good sized bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen (well equiped) and lounge. It was great to have off street garaged parking. And a TV that we could plug a HDMI cable into. Everything was very clean and well looked after. In a nice residential area only about 10 minutes drive from the centre of Newcastle.
The Grand Hotel could not be much more central - it's right in near the middle of town, the harbour, beaches and transport. The staff were delightful and the food was great. The room was very comfortable with a large private balcony. Th eshower head had great water pressure.
The Clarendon is right in the heart of Newcastle. Right near the river so you can jump on a pathway and go for a morning jog or walk. The rooms are spacious and it was like a little apartment rather than a hotel room.
Situated within a short walk/drive/metro ride to anything you could need within the Newcastle CBD. Facilities of the hotel are 5 star, everything is clean, modern & Comfy with the staff being very friendly and helpful.
The motel is in a good location for visiting Newcastle, it is only about 15 minutes drive. The room was quite small, although it was comfortable, and the breakfast was very good. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
We love Tony Hughes and all his hard work! He really looks after the community and runs a tight ship! Probably the hardest worker in Newcastle and we appreciate his work ethic.
Also his staff are on par!
great communication via booking.com any questions I had were answered promptly. they looked after a bag for me while I was in hospital 2 nights until I checked back in. staff were friendly & helpful
i really liked the staff behaviours towards the customers, they were very friendly and helpful.
Very good size 2 bed room unit. The rooms were clean and kitchen was big, though we didn’t use it.
Staff were excellent, the room was clean and comfortable with good air conditioning. Covid protocols were in place and changes in service due to restrictions clearly communicated.
Everything. Very hipster, cool, 3 mins walk to Newcastle interchange and the water, cafes. Excellent hotel. It’s so chic and gorgeous. The bar is great and library area too.
Having a suite meant it was more roomy, bathroom set up for disability was large.
Bed was comfortable.
Location very central to Newcastle, the harbour and Darby St for food.
We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel, but it was very central with lots of options for breakfast very close by. It's a perfect location for east end Newcastle.
