I've waited some time now before writing this review because I was so angry about the stay here, I needed to calm down and not be too emotional about my review.
The only positive thing I can say is that the staff on reception are nice, polite and helpful.
Hotel Don Manuel is a 5-minute walk from Algeciras Train and Bus Station, as well as the Heliport and Ferry Terminal. It offers 24-hour reception, free Wi-Fi in rooms and free parking nearby.

Fabulous location. Right next to bus depot. The restaurant was tasty. Overall, clean comfy and perfect location for us.

Super comfortable king sized bed, decent breakfast and friendly staff. Also pet-friendly! Free parking nearby on the street. Well equipped gym. Gibraltar is only a 25 minute drive which makes this hotel an great and inexpensive choice!
Set just minutes from the beach, the Hotel Mirador’s rooms boast free internet connection, and large balconies from which you can admire great views of Algecira Bay.

It is a great place to get ferries to Morocco or to get the shuttle to Tarifa to do the same.
I have been before and found it to be a pleasant small town with a good patisserie/bakery that had Moroccan foods (briouwats, mini pastilla, etc).
The reason for the 'average' rating of the town stems from the fact that the place I booked was unhelpful and would not allow me to access the property at midnight even though I had paid in advance. As a result I was stranded and had to wander about at night, sleep on a too short stone bench and cat nap until the FRS ticket offices opened.
Algeciras is reasonably easy to navigate on foot. There are some cafés by the central market that open early for the traders. There is also a Carrefour express in the area between the train Station and the port with a full selection of goods.
I cannot rate 'Conv3nient R00ms - F3rry, Tr@in & Bus $tation' as I was not allowed entry to the property at midnight (late trains, missed connections) having paid for in advance my room. Unfortunately the proprietor was not helpful and I was left wandering the streets all night as not other hostals were open. A cold night with a very short stone bench! (Perhaps this is a rating?) I would avoid this place on my next visit and look for a better rated (more expensive hostal/hotel.
I would love to return yet again to Algeciras under better conditions and have an actual 'holiday there, rather than using it merely as a travel interchange. The town looks lovely and no doubt has things to offer away from the mildly salubrious Tran Station/Port area.

Gibraltar can not be reached by train, and one needs to stay a night somewhere to explore Gibraltar. Algeciras is ideal for this stay, and if you are here, then spend some hours for walking Algeciras,

After being in Marocco for 2 months, it felt like I was still in Marocco, but at the bus station, you can get a bus ticket to Madrid for €21.78, it's a 9 hr bus ride and only makes a 30 min stop, but it was worth it, didn't like Algeciras, but the stay at the Hostel was brilliant, only thing the property needs to do is, undated on how you enter the property.

A much more authentic experience of a Spanish small city/town. Less busy than most other locations in this area and we loved it. We could easily have stayed a week. Very good tuna combo plate at Maridaje.

We weren't intending to stay here but had an extra day due to the ferry cancellation. The centre was small enough to walk round and was interesting enough without having anything really noteworthy.

a really nice city, they are a lot of options to eat Typical food there, i ate Tapas and lot of ham, to get around you can simply walk, take a taxi or just use the public transport. we liked going out and have a few drinks wich was not a problem because all the options that are around the city.
Absolutely the BEST place to stay if arriving by train - the hotel is located right across the road from the station, and next to the bus station. It was only a ten minute walk to the ferry terminal, and in the other direction the center of town was also about ten minutes walk. A very comfortable hotel with everything you would need for a good night's rest. Organising a day trip to Gibraltar from here was as simple as walking next door to the bus station. The town itself is worth a look.
We ended up staying here two nights as all ferries to Morocco were cancelled due to gales when we reached Algeciras. The staff were very helpful in sorting out the extra night and printing out boarding passes for the flight we took from Malaga instead of hoping the ferry might run - it was still very windy the second day so it probably didn't. Nice old-style (meant in a good way) hotel, convenient for train station and ferry terminal.
The hotel is on the beach, and the beach has a nice view of Gibraltar Mountain. The hotel has a bar and cafe with good prices and a terrace to sit and enjoy the sea view. The room and bathroom were clean, and cleaning was done every day. Wi-Fi worked perfectly. We had a balcony with a tiny sea view and a good view of the loud public parking near the hotel. The beach was clean. The public parking place was free if you could catch one.
I liked the location, very close to the harbor and a beautiful park near …many snackbars, busstation walking distance
Friendly personnel of the hotel.
Only one night I stayed, because I took a ferry from Morocco, Ceuta to Algeciras.
From Algeciras I took a bus to Sevilla.
Top!
I was a little skeptical when I booked this hotel as I thought the price was too good to be true but I was so happy with everything! Rooms were excellent, spacious and clean and the staff here were absolutely amazing! Loved this place! Would go back tomorrow!
We got in late and left very early, so we didn't get to enjoy the hotel very much. But the receptionist was friendly, the hotel offers a parking lot for 5 euros/day, and we were able to leave our car there for an extra day after checking out with no problem.
Excellent budget apartment. The staff were warm and welcoming and went out of their way to be helpful. The space felt dated but it was clean and functional and we had a very comfortable stay. Kitchen was well stocked with dishes and moka pots.
In a great area of Algeciras, the bed was very comfortable and it was very clean. We did not have the breakfast as we had to leave early in the morning for our ferry to Morocco. The port ferry terminal is 25 minutes walk from the Hotel.
No this , it was so dirty , bed sheets were under the blankets , dust everywhere , the receptionist was a bit rude didn’t talk to us properly .
And it was a bit expensive compared to other hostels I’ve been to In Spain.
The appartment was very spacious and clean and we had a very large roof terras all to ourselves. City centre is only a 10 minute walk. Very good food and drinks in Algeciras as well.
Hotel location is great if you are arriving/departing port of Algeciras only. If not, the location is not great. We found this hotel to be clean with plenty of parking.
Good point for stop after returning from Morocco via ferry in Tarifa, before going further to the other southern-east Spain regions. Comfortable rooms, good bathroom.
