The narrow lane access was full of deep potholes.
The narrow lane access was full of deep potholes. There were no signs stating that there was convenient access to rooms from the car park level with suggestions possibly to register first up the flight of stairs (internally there are three flights of steep stairs down to the rooms. Signage would have been helpful). There is nothing near the hotel but water and woods so a car trip down the narrow lane is necessary even for a newspaper. The boutique hotel room was modern and clean with a comfortable bed. Unfortunately there were essential items missing, such as no waste bin in the bedroom, no shelf for toiletries/toothbrush in the bathroom and no grab rail for elderly occupants; in fact the situation was not good for anyone with vertigo or mobility issues. We received family guests for dinner, one meal was unfortunately overcooked so much so that the basic fish and chips meal was refunded. This reflected badly on us as hosts and will not recommend it to others for such a visit.

The hotel was difficult to find because it is actually called The Gurkha Restaurant and there is nothing to show that it’s The Woodcock Inn. I drove past it as the SatNav instructions told us to bear left on Woodcock Hill, when I was already driving SW on that road. Rather than travel to Gatwick / Cophall airport long term parking, on the day of departure we opted to stay overnight, and have a more relaxed start to our holiday.
