MyStays was really easy to walk to from the JR station. We got there just before 2pm and were able to check in straight away. It’s a tall building and signs are easy to see. On enquiring, I was told that our room would not have a castle view but we were changed to a lower room with castle view when I asked if possible. It was distant but nice! Having checked in so early and freshened up, we had the afternoon to explore and eat out. The hotel’s location is good for access to both station areas and to the castle grounds. Tram stops are very close too. Easy to figure out transport options. The staff were very helpful. On request, a taxi was ordered for us for checkout morning so we could travel to the port for a ferry to Kure / Hiroshima. We liked that the window in the room opened so we could let some outside air in. And there were some charging leads for devices in one of the drawers.

I like that this hotel chain has free breakfast.
The staff was also very friendly and tried to communicate with hands and feet. Apparently nobody speaks English. I speak a bit Japanese though so it wasn’t a problem. They tried to communicate as best as they could and that’s what matters.

First of all, all has to be seen in the relation of the paid price.
16m2 room (the larger type) for JPY 5.800 plus a very modest JPY 950 for a set menu of Japanese breakfast is a bargain more than you can ask for. Therefore my expectations were not set too high.
Bottom line, my expectations were exceeded in all aspects.
Ofcourse this hotel is a business hotel meeting the Japanese standard in terms of check in / check out rulings, the standard set of rules and regulations, the nationwide common squeeze of a unit type bathroom, standard bed, desk, etc.
What makes this hotel stick out of the mass, is its friendly and sincere personnel, the fantastic public bath, top notch location and last but not least an agreeable set of breakfast to an agreeable price.
Different to my fellow travelers, WIFI was speedy, no set up nor connection issues. All top notch.
Basically there is nothing to complain about.
If I paid double, I would surely be shopping for complaints and petite issues.
All in all, it was a nice stay, helpful and friendly staff, decent lodgings, prime location.

The atmosphere and vibe was very clean and kinda Nordic. Wooden floors! Room was very roomy, almost decadently so. One of the fanciest hotels I've been in terms of general atmosphere.

Really enjoyed Matsuyama and was sad to leave.
Really enjoyed Matsuyama and was sad to leave. The castle (with its chair lift up to it) was great. There are lots of options for shopping, eating and drinking and the whole area around Dogo Onsen is very nice.

Where there isn’t the sea, the city is surrounded by mountains. With the hill that has the castle on top, it creates a nice atmosphere. The onsen town (Dogo onsen) is where I mostly stayed. It was fun to see people walking around in the street in their yukata.
Like in many Japanese cities, the tram is cute and all, but it’s very inefficient. Moreover, you can only pay with cash or their local IC card. You cannot use standard IC cards like Pasmo, Suica, etc.
We ate at our wonderful hotel (Kowakuen) so I cannot speak about the restaurants.

Beautiful city full of amazing places to visit.
Beautiful city full of amazing places to visit. The must visits are of course the mountain top castle named Matsuyama Castle and also so many others like the Okaido shopping street and the Bansuino old French-style house. There are also delicious foods to try such as the Taimeshi which was delicious as well as the amazingly delicious oranges (mikaan) around the city. There are so many shops selling mikaan and mikaan juice that if you like fruits, you will love this city.

Matsuyama, in the winter at least, is pretty boring.
Matsuyama, in the winter at least, is pretty boring. The big onsen that they go on about is a tourist trap so I would not waste your time. I was told Spring and Fall were the best times to go as the Summer is hot and humid. The people seem OK but don’t really want to be bothered by foreigners.

I visited Matsuyama as part of the 88 temple Henro pilgrimage and so took in several temples, shrines and the Matsuyama Castle which is the most impressive castle I have visited in Japan thus far. The hot springs are also excellent and plenty of nightlife options.
The hotel is modern but we were able to stay in the traditional Japanese style room - everything about the room was thoughtfully prepared (tea, drip coffee, robes and slippers for use when going to onsen, ice machine and small souvenir shop), clean and beds were comfortable. The location was very good, nice buffet dinner, live music performance at night and very kind staff. The rooftop onsen was excellent - it had a beautiful view of Matsuyama city, different soaking areas (outdoor and indoor with spa bubbles) and felt pretty private.
The hotel is perfectly located in Dogo Onsen with private access via elevator to the main shopping district. Everything looks brand new throughout the hotel and my room offered a balcony with spectacular views of Matsuyama with its Castle and the mountain range in the distance. The onsen on the top floor is very nice with an open-air bath and might be the best in the area. The staff was kind and helpful and the breakfast was just delicious. I also enjoyed the live piano evenings at the lobby.
I loved absolutely everything about my stay! The room was so spacious (the most spacious hotel room I've ever stayed in in Japan) and the onsen was incredibly comfortable. Everything that I could possibly need was provided and the tram stop to get you to the station and/Dogo Onsen is just a short walk away, making this very conveniently located. Would absolutely stay there again if I could and would wholeheartedly recommend that others do too!
Good hospitality, good breakfast, good services(free ice cream, free probiotic drink, and free midnight snack) clean room and clean public hot spring. Everything was super clean, building itself was build recently. It is inside of okaido's shopping street, you can ride the Limousin bus to the airport near here. Contemporary style but you can also enjoy Japanese style hot spring and food here.
This hotel does not feel like an APA at all! When you say APA you think of small sardine boxes. This one, however, has a huge room! I was so surprised by how big it was. The staff are so kind and helpful. check in and out were smooth and quick.
Very close to Matsuyama castle. Convenience store right across the street. If I’m ever back in Matsuyama I will definitely be staying there again!
The Japanese room was spacious and very comfortable
Futons were great
Great location, allowing to visit the East of Matsuyama, including the Dogo Onsen (2min walking distance), shopping area and lots of restaurants
Easy access and use of washing machines and driers
Hotel was very clean
Shoe rack with slippers at the entrance
Shared area with TV, tea, coffee and tables for meals
if onsen is your priority then this is the place to stay. dogo onsen is right across the hotel, and the dogo onsen annex is just less than 200m away. yukata and sandals are provided at hotel. the hotel staff are very welcoming, helpful and really hospitable. recommend !
The breakfast was very good. They had a lot of different options available and everything we tried was delicious. The room was spacious and clean. The hotel is brand new so the bathroom was very modern and beautiful.
Friendly staff, clean and new room as I was assigned a room at the extension building next door. Quite a large and spacious room by Japanese hotel standards and comes with a full sized bath tub & workdesk.
Great location. Right across the street from the Okaido shopping center and just a short walk to the Matsuyama castle today and you can catch the street car to Dogo Onsen right in front of the Hotel
We stayed the a castle view room and a landscape from large window in the room was great. Also hotel is just next to castle park, so we could walk around the part early morning which was also nice.
They have a discount for the super public bath across the street, which is our favorite one so far in Japan! It's really close to the station, and they had free bike rentals.
Very convenient location. From Matsuyama Airport, there is a limousine bus and when you get off at Okaido Bus stop, just a 5 min. walking distance to the Hotel.
