We found Châtellerault to be a little gem.
We found Châtellerault to be a little gem. We've stayed in most of the larger towns is this region as overnights to south France/Spain and this has many of their charms but, being smaller, meant things like parking and finding somewhere to eat was easier. Very easy to walk around, enough places to eat so that there was no need to worry about finding somewhere but also have some choices, and the river walk is very pleasant - especially in the sun.OliverUnited Kingdom - 8.0Scored 8.0

Google maps didn't help with finding the hotel, had to ask several people, took a while! (it's about 1 mile North of the town centre, on a 'trading estate'). There are some places to eat within walking distance. Hotel itself is ok, clean, staff helpful, breakfast basic but ok.

The centre is attractive and a very nice old church on the way. There were plenty of Restaurants and a square for sitting out. We ate at an Italian which was good, and value for money. Walking is easy in the town and a nice bridge over the Loire into the town. We are not young so nightlife was not a priority! Cycling is easy round the town.

The town is close to the motorway north/south and the hotel/house is easy to reach making it ideal for travelling through France. Christine, the hostess, is marvellous, charming and prepared a superb breakfast in the morning. The house is comfortable, stylish and provides a very personal stay with easy access to the town centre for drinks and dinner. We will definitely be back on our next journey through France,

When I arrived on my motorcycle the manager asked if I wanted to park it in his private garage which I did. I did not ask or expect this as there is adequate parking outside but it was most appreciated knowing my bike would not be on the street all night.

Great location in the old town, 10 minutes walk to the train station and also to the museum of châtellerault. The hotel owner is very friendly and helpful (I left something in the room, and he immediately contacted me on how to return it to me). Also a good place to leave my bicycle safely. Excellent breakfast as well, with good quality bread etc.
