Friendly staff, comfortable beds, very solid breakfast service (with separate but still great dinner service to match at the same restaurant) and an excellent location with a view onto Kirkjufell! As a bonus, Grundarfjordur's a great town with easy driving access to lots of sights and hikes.
Hotel Búðir is a must stay if staying over on the peninsula.
Hotel Búðir is a must stay if staying over on the peninsula. We stayed for one night and it was a perfect stop after a long day. They have a happy hour in the lounge from 1600-1800 hours. Pleasant and helpful staff. Just do it!

This is a hidden gem - I would come back to the Snafellsness peninsula just to stay in this hotel again. The view all around is breathtaking - you have it all - the glacier, the magnificent mountains and a waterfall, lava fields and the black rocky beaches hidden behind pink sand dunes. Do not miss the hike behind the hotel and do it before 10am to have a complete solitude from tourists. Restauarnt and bar are top notch.
We loved staying at this lovely hotel. It is in a picturesque setting with lovely views to the ocean and mountains from our corner room. The bed was comfortable and the room spacious. The decor is in keeping with the era of the hotel, very retro with vintage furniture and furnishings.
The restaurant was very good, the food and service excellent.
The hotel is more expensive than others of the same class in Iceland but it is unique in it’s history and location.
Very nice location next to the Budir black church. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Our room had a nice view, over the water towards snow-capped mountains. The restaurant serves really good food and the French sommelier knows his wines. The overall feel is a mix between hotel pampering and visiting your favourite old aunt; the latter mainly because of the old (antique?) furniture and embroidered table clothes in the restaurant.
The property was absolutely stunning. A beautifully appointed hotel and spectacular staff. I was given a free upgrade to a deluxe room and could not have been happier. I came for my birthday and the chef even made me a special breakfast just to celebrate. Amazing experience all around and they even do a northern lights wake up. I highly recommend this place and look forward to the day I can come back.
Location, setting, charm and coziness. And the outstanding views! Friendly, helpful staff. The restaurant is excellent and includes several vegan options, though it is relatively expensive. Excellent bread and butter. Breakfast buffet a little underwhelming with less than attentive staff compared to the one we enjoyed at our hotel in Reykjavik.
We loved everything about the hotel. The location for a visit to the peninsula is perfect; it avoids long trips back to, for example, Borgarnes. The restaurant was terrific too. The only complain is that the bathrooms, especially the shower facilities are a bit outdated. That would not stop me from recommending the hotel to friends.
It was an excellent place to stay. The location, staff, restaurant were all top notch and well above expectation. I would go back any time of the year. The hotel was very cozy and friendly. You have to go to the restaurant on site and the cocktails were tasty as well.
This small hotel is in a beautiful location, with great coastal walking just outside the door. We particularly enjoyed the bird watching. The staff are lovely, the lounge areas most welcoming, and our room was delightful, with a view of the waterfall.
We went the Budir to elope. The hotel was wonderful, the staff friendly and very accommodating, the location was beautiful, the food was amazing. Even with snowstorms and road closures it was a trip to remember. We will be back!
The restaurant was amazing, and all of the hotel staff were very friendly. Our waitress, Veronica, was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu and the hotel in general. We’ll definitely come back!
- The restaurant was amazing. Best dinner we had in Iceland
- ocean side of the hotel was beautiful- great scenery and very cozy
- the furnishings and overall experience epitomized hygge
- great value
