Friendly staff, comfortable beds, very solid breakfast service (with separate but still great dinner service to match at the same restaurant) and an excellent location with a view onto Kirkjufell! As a bonus, Grundarfjordur's a great town with easy driving access to lots of sights and hikes.

If you're looking for fancy accommodation with new furniture and lots of space, this may not be suitable for you. However, if you're interested in meeting locals, this is a great opportunity. Some reviews mention the smell of horses in the house, but it's not like the house is filthy; it's most likely just some rugs or shoes in the hall (if you have a dog, they're probably the first thing you smell in your hall). I should mention that our room was clean and odor-free. The kitchen is small, so I wouldn't recommend any big cooking. We spent just one night here. We cooked some pasta, took a hot shower, chatted with the house owner (a nice guy), and got some good sleep - perfect for this purpose.

Loved staying in Grundafjord. The host was lovely and the apartment very comfortable and had everything we needed. It felt more spacious than in photos. We loved how it looked over the harbour and was an easy walk to restaurants and grocery stores.

Grundarfjordur is a convenient town for exploring the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It has a good grocery store and two excellent cafes for coffee & treats. A little food truck is open until the end of August. We stayed here 4 nights so we would have time to explore and I'm glad we did because one day was too stormy to see sights and another day wasn't optimal.

Destination port for cruise ships, correspondingly temporarily overcrowded. All pilgrimage to Kirkjufell (known from social media), which is accordingly overcrowded. Deterrent example of Icelandic mass tourism. :-(

Definitely not worth the extra drive time, town is not set up for tourists at all, hotel was 350 euros, which was very high compared to all other night on our trip. We spent the same, but had much better accommodations. Much more to do in the other towns

The town/village itself is really quite sweet.
The town/village itself is really quite sweet. We didn't spend much time there, but we did drive in to use the grocery store and walk around a bit. Kirkjufell Mountain is really quite stunning and one of the most recognizable Icelandic landmarks. You can just sit and look at it all day.
For such a small town, Grundarfjordur is packed with loads of hotels, guesthouses, shops and places to eat. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

This small mountain gets a lot of positive press and yes, it's kind of cool but really not all that great. We were trying to find it the last time we were here (three years ago) and drove right past it. There is a parking lot on the left as you are leaving town and you need to park and get out for the mountain to "look" like it looks in the pictures you see everywhere- with the waterfalls, etc.
There are numerous sights around Iceland that make this one look like a joke. Still...stopping for 5 minutes to get a picture or two will be worth it but you won't look back on this one and remember how awesome it was.

A gorgeous setting next to Kirkjufell Mountain!
A gorgeous setting next to Kirkjufell Mountain! It is a very convenient base for exploring the Snaefellsness peninsula. Dont miss the wonderful restaurant, Bjargarsteinn Mathus, where our meal was truly exceptional.
The staff was kind and helpful. We arrived late but no issue for checking in.
The location was great that we supposed to see Kirkjufell from our room (but due to the weather, we couldn't). The room was clean and equipped with comfy bed. The washing basin is located in the room, outside the bathroom so it is convenient that one could take a shower while the other could wash his face/brush his teeth.
There is also common dining area available. There are also nearby restaurants within the walking distance.
This place is a real gem in the west of Iceland. The view from my room was priceless. The location is quite convenient and there is a small restaurant crossing the road. There is a lot of spaces to park your car. The room was very comfortable, clean and peaceful. The lady that assisted me provided me all the info I needed and even gave me tips to enjoy around the area. Very friendly oriented. I met nice people in the kitchen. We were all talking about our aventures and sharing travel tips.
This property must be one of the best locations to stay anywhere in Iceland. Although the property looks a little tired from the outside and no longer has a hot tub, the interior was really lovely and well equipped. As a family of five, having four bedrooms was really appreciated. Best of all was sitting in the conservatory and taking in the views. Communication with the host (Eva) was really good and the property offered good value for money given the premium location.
This Guesthouse is an absolute delight in the peninsula.
From the good comfort to the impeccable cleanliness, our stay was nothing short of wonderful. The hosts were friendly and nice. The location is fantastic, offering easy access to local attractions and amenities in Snæfellsness peninsula. We particularly enjoyed the private bathroom. Highly recommend Stoð Guesthouse and Apartment for a memorable stay in Iceland.
Easy check-in with keybox. Pretty standard hotel room in a very good location, close to Kirkjufell. Good place for an evening walk along the harbour and cute village. Breakfast was good and staff friendly. We also had dinner in the Harbour Cafe (where breakfast is served) - it was OK but not great for the price you pay. We loved the soup but the lasagna was not great, cake for dessert was clearly defrosted.
This property was incredible, the views were beautiful and you could see Kirkjufell from the window of your hotel. I would recommend this property to anybody looking to stay in this area. The only quality choice for your money. The owners of the property are also good people, they returned my headphones that I left behind. They were kind and courteous the entire time. 10/10!
The location is great. Just in front of the Kirjufell and only 2.7 km away from Kirkjufellsfoss. Excellent communication with hosts. They informed us of the times when shops close in this small village. The hosts have great neighbours who gave us some good tips for our Iceland trip.
Nice location near Kirkjufell on a farm. The shared living area was nicely appointed, and the bathroom was large for Iceland. The owner communicated well to help us get checked in, although we didn't meet. The weather was wet and windy, so we didn't get a chance to walk around.
The owner is one of the kindest we’ve seen in al of Iceland; he personally waited for us to check in, and he gave us a list of things to do nearby. We got a free upgrade because it was not too busy; the room and view were beautiful!
Great property. It was beautiful, spacious and right in town. The hosts were amazing and so accommodating to me and my family. I cannot wait to come back. I highly recommend reserving this space for your next stay in Iceland.
Nice setup with everything you need to have a comfortable stay. The shower room was great and spacious.
The view from the hotel is elevated and would be great if not for the snowing and poor visibility prevented that.
Very nice guesthouse with amazing views, great amenities (especially the shower), and free coffee from a great coffee shop in town. I look forward to staying again on my next trip to Iceland.
Highly recommended stay at Iceland.
Room clean, parking easy n free, near Kirkjufell mountain and fall. We had experienced awesome sutset n Northern Light during our stayed
My favorite accommodation in Iceland during my past 36 times traveling in Iceland. It's too comfortable to let you prefer staying in the villa than going outside.
