Location is superb, on a couple of hundred metres from the Grotemarkt, and right next to a bar called Cafe Stiels. Getting there by public transport is easy and the place is very comfortable. The shower wasn't warming up on our first day so we messaged the host and they had someone out and fixing it within a couple of hours. Very helpful and receptive.

The room was very comfortable and stylish. The products were very good. I liked that there was lotion and conditioner as well as a hair diffuser as you don't often get this at hotels. The restaurant was exceptional.

Haarlem is a pretty town, and a lively destination.
Haarlem is a pretty town, and a lively destination. I mainly walked around, looking at the canals and houses. One of my photos shows one of the older canalside housing (green door). The station is a lovely Art Nouveau building with tiled pictures, the only one in the Netherlands. Transport is easy, and Haarlem is convenient for Amsterdam, Leiden, etc, and for visiting the bulb fields at Keukenhof in spring.

Haarlem is beautiful in it's own right with lots of historic buildings, and charming streets which have been greened with tree, shrub and flower planting. There is the Frans Hals museum to visit, and much more. Take a walking tour of "Monumental Haarlem"
Haarlem is also very conveniently situated for Amsterdam and surrounding areas. We used public transport all the time. Just swipe on and off the bus or train, and everything is taken care of. Really simple, and it all works smoothly.
We also found some really good restaurants for our evening meals.

Haarlem is a wonderful city to stay in as it has the canals, lots of history, good shopping and plentiful restaurants.
The Grotemarkt has the oldest organ in Europe which Mozart played on and Corrie Ten Boom’s house(who hid the Jews in WW2) is better than Anne Franks! The very first museum in the Netherlands is also here-Teylers. The Saturday market is wonderful.
It is only 15 minutes by train back into Amsterdam and you have a better feel of regular Dutch folks in this beautiful town.

First, I really liked Amsterdam.
First, I really liked Amsterdam. But it was really really crowded, even the first week of April. Then, when I got to Haarlem, I realized it was similar to Amsterdam, with all the old world Europe charm, old buildings, & canals, but not the hordes of crazy tourists. I ended up liking Haarlem better than Amsterdam! Even better than Rotterdam, and maybe the Haag (except I only spent a few hours there). Easy to walk everywhere, and I rented a bicycle and rode all the way to the beach and back on easy, nice separated bike paths. Also, the bike riders are not as aggressive as in Amsterdam. So as an American tourist, in my 50s, I felt perfectly comfortable riding my bike all over. Of course, you still need to be hyper aware of oncoming cyclists and cars… also, they had a secure bike garage near the main central Plaza, where you could lock your bike for free, with a guard watching over it. If you left it overnight, you had to pay something. So I was able to lock my eBay inside there while visiting main attractions in the plaza, like the church with the pipe organ.
I will definitely choose this as a base next time, instead of Amsterdam. I considered staying in Leiden too, but never got a chance to go there.

Haarlem is a beautiful safe city with plenty of lovely restaurants and bars. Walking is the best way to get around the city . I would recommend hiring bikes and cycling out to Zaandvort which is completely along a cycle path to a stunning beach. There are plenty of museums and the windmill is worth a visit . There is also a food market in the square on Saturday morning
Wonderful room, modern bathroom, homelike lounge, and fantastic breakfast array in beautiful dining room. Beds were cozy with lovely comforters. The location near the train station made it easy to " commute" by 20 minute train ride to visit Amsterdam, a quick 30 minute ride to Hague, as well as a 40 minute trip to Delft. It always was calming to return each evening to Lion D'or to take a quick rest and then stroll the inviting streets of Haarlem and enjoy dinner at one of the many nearby restaurants and cafes.
The location was brilliant, a 3 min walk to bus No 300 which takes you right in to the centre of Haarlem ( or train station for easy access to Amsterdam ).Breakfast was stunning , but found the applejuice ran out quickly lol.The room was luxurious with a bathroom bigger than many hotel rooms ive stayed in. Temperature control was easy and effective. Nespresso coffee machine and kettle provided and a good supply of consumables. I was able to use my netflix account on the flatscreen tv.
Room was good sized, bed was very comfortable. The staff is very attentive and the facility is nicely maintained. Being near the station was very convenient and the main part of town is just a short (7~10 minute) walk. We stayed here instead of Amsterdam and found that Haarlem has numerous restaurants and some interesting museums. The bus to the airport was super convenient. It definitely beats staying in an airport hotel if you just have a few days between flights.
We stayed for a week in the split level apartment. It was really quaint and comfy, and felt like a home from home. The children enjoyed using the cafe in the afternoon, and the atmosphere was always chilled. Location was fab and we would stay again! Haarlem has so much to offer, culturally, with a great selection of historic sites, museums and restaurants. It was really easy to access the train into Amsterdam too.
The Riverside Suite is spacious with a great view over a canal with a windmill. Easy walk to town with lots of places to explore, eat, drink and shop. The train station is close by for a quick 15 minute ride into Amsterdam. Monique is very friendly & an excellent host with lots of thoughtful touches and was flexible with our travel arrangements.
Haarlem is a beautiful town and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
First the apartment was spotless, the beds more comfortable than home and it has an excellent location. Also the internet and TVs worked great. Haarlem is a charming town and I will chose to stay here over Amsterdam in the future. It's an easy train ride in to see the sights. Haarlem itself has enough to please without going anywhere else. If there on a saturday be sure to enjoy the farmers market.
My stay here was very good . The owners went out of their way to make my stay as comfortable as possible . I really enjoyed learning about Haarlem and Netherlands from my host who gave me great ideas about what to see and do during my stay . An added bonus was the use of a bicycle that allowed me to explore further and enjoy the area even more .
We loved our stay at Hotel Malts. It was the perfect location, about a two minute walk to the main square. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable beds. Our highlight was the breakfast each morning and speaking to Henk and Annemarie. If your thinking about staying in Haarlem, do yourself a favor and book early and through their website.
Beautiful old building with a private garden for guests. Very central location in Haarlem and only 15-20 minutes from Amsterdam or Schiphol. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Great breakfast served in your room.
The hotel is in an ideal location for a stay in Haarlem. In my view Haarlem is a better base for a stay in The Netherlands than Amsterdam. It has excellent transport links to both Amsterdam and Schiphol.
Comfy bed, spacious room, good shower, really excellent breakfast, free car parking.
The train station - to Haarlem or Amsterdam - has free parking and is 5 minutes drive away.
Very nice apartment located in a nice city of Haarlem. Apartment was clean, comfortable, well equipped and in good location to visit Amsterdam or to enjoy a day on the beach.
Very nice hotel neyt to a park, close to the city center. Perfect place with family, away from the crowds of Amsterdam, but just a few minutes away from the seaside.
Room was clean and functional. Great hotel location, on the Grote Markt, Haarlem's central square. A nice breakfast included with the room. Very good coffee.
The location is very good for both directions - Amsterdam and Haarlem. Very nice and quiet place in spite being few meters from bus station and trains.
