Chilled out atmosphere. Perfect location for the crossing. The owner makes you feel very welcome. I highly recommend anyone to stay here.

Finlay Jack's Backpackers offers an ideal location in Taupo. The hostel offers single bed dormitory's. The bed! Normally I don't like upper bunk bed but this one is stairs, not ladders to going up. Also, there are 2 pillows in the bed that never happened in another hostel in NZ. I really appreciate that!

Set in Turangi, 48 km from Mount Ruapehu, Tongariro River Retreat offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace. The owner is a tremendous bloke, he's not in it for anything other than to help people out. He has a knack of prempting any potential problems you might have and finds the solution, I would say a man for all seasons. His staff also very nice as are his children.

Based by the Lake offers accommodation centrally located in Taupo, just minutes from the lake. Location was close to the lake, the food, the supermarket, everything. Amenities (kitchen and laundry) were clean and well thought out. Enjoyed the girls only dorm with the extra perk of a private balcony.
