Finlay Jack's Backpackers offers an ideal location in Taupo. The hostel offers single bed dormitory's. The bed! Normally I don't like upper bunk bed but this one is stairs, not ladders to going up. Also, there are 2 pillows in the bed that never happened in another hostel in NZ. I really appreciate that!

Based by the Lake offers accommodation centrally located in Taupo, just minutes from the lake. Location was close to the lake, the food, the supermarket, everything. Amenities (kitchen and laundry) were clean and well thought out. Enjoyed the girls only dorm with the extra perk of a private balcony.

Waitomo Homestead Cabins features a garden, shared lounge, a terrace and restaurant in Waitomo Caves. Offering a bar, the property is located within 9.1 km of Waitomo Glow Worm Caves. We didn't actually stay here as I had booked the wrong type of accommodation for us 3 older ladies. We needed 3 separate beds, an ensuite, and a small kitchen facility. The lovely lady at the desk however rang a motel in Otorohanga for us and booked us in there, which was much appreciated. So a big thanks to the lovely lady at the front desk.
