Moorea was a gorgeous island, loved the pearl shopping at Pearl Romance, eating at Moorea Beach Cafe and the Hilton Moorea Lagoon resort was just perfect.
Awesome area of Moorea, had a few shops within walking distance including supermarkets and pearl shops. Many good restaurants in the area also. Awesome beaches with some good snorkeling which would be ideal for kids as the water isn't too deep. Excellent place to stay for a relaxing holiday :) Bike hire from resort or from hire store is a great way to get around too.
Moorea is a lovely island. You can visit the whole place in a day, but may want to take some extra time to do some excursions. We had a terrific day with Moorea Deep Blue, going to snorkel with the humpback whales, which migrate here between August and October. We were lucky enough to see them the first week of November. We also went snorkelling with black tip sharks and sting rays.
Calm place in a beautiful landscape. Don't come here for shopping (very limited on Moorea in general), but to relax and for outdoor activities. To get around, a rental car is advisable.
We stayed at the Pearl down the beach, in a beach front cabin a couple of years ago and it was very nice. This year we splurged and reserved an over water bungalow at the Sofitel. It was one of the best hotel experiences of my life and I travel a lot and stay at mainly luxury level hotels. The snorkeling was amazing and very safe. Better than the Pearl. it was like swimming in a very well stocked aquarium and the fish were very different with some large and small. Hundreds would clustered around as we swam from our porch. Moorea is so much nicer than Tahiti and the ferry ride is very easy and convenient. It is lightly developed and is very peaceful and quiet.
Maharepa is just next to Cook's Bay and so you have the wonderful scenic views of Cook's Bay whilst being near to all the facilities of Maharepa. I would definitely recommend Maharepa as the best area to stay in Moorea.
I loved Moorea for its beauty both on land and on/under water. The island is rugged, has amazing views of the lagoon from up top (especially Magic Mountain) and some fantastic snorkelling. It's easy to get around on bikes as there are bike lanes along the road that circles the island. Some restaurants offer free pick ups but we were not organised enough to use that service.
Nice area very picturesque with shops around and plenty of activities. Sunset reatuarant at Hibiscus Hotel great place to eat. Beach at Moorea Sunset hotel and Tipaniers the best. Easy walking distance to shops. Great area to just snorkel possible to dive, see the raies, kite surf and fish. Great place for a relaxing holiday.
Haapiti is a village in the North-West side of the island. You can do your grocery shopping, eat at restaurants, rent vehicles and buy souvenirs at Le Petit Village. There is also a gas station, ATM, ABC store with slushy machine, souvenir shops and great little roadside eatery called A L'Heure de Sud. Stay at the Moorea Sunset Beach!!!!! Eat at A L'Heure de Sud & Les Tipaniers. Do Francky Francks 4wd tour of Magic Mountain, Belvedere Lookout and other really cool places. Hire a scooter from Le Petit Village. Kayak to Coco d'Isle which is on a little motu off Moorea Sunset Beach.
Great trip up Magic Mountain & Belvedere with Mario on the Moorea 4WD tour.excellent meal at the Beach Cafe & Holy Steak (not only steak). Recommend hiring a car
Temae
Lovely place to stay in Moorea! Close to Tema’e Beach and easy to access the rest of the island (with car or scooter). The dorm was very comfortable (no ac but the fans work well!) and the common areas were well designed for meeting other travelers. Nick provided great conversation and local recommendations, along with help getting to the ferry port after my check out. Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling to Moorea on a budget and looking to meet other likeminded travelers! I will surely be back next time I’m in French Polynesia!
The hotel is brand-new which means that the bungalow was pristine clean and super modern while embracing the traditional design and decorations of a Polynesian fare. We had our own spacious 1-bedroom bungalow with kitchen ans living room facing one of the most beautiful beach in Moorea. The location is pretty awesome! We loved the fact that we could just borrow kayaks and paddles to go and explore the lagoon - it’s easy to go to the Tipaniers beach where the stingrays and sharks can be seen.
Maharepa
Gorgeous property on Moorea. We loved having our little "fish TV" glass bottom floor to watch the fish. All in all, super relaxing stay in a gorgeous place. Pool was great as well! Location of this resort means it's easy to walk around to different food trucks and restaurants so you're not trapped with resort food if you don't want to be. We didn't rent a car but there was a big parking lot for rentals. Hotel easily called taxis for us when needed.
This is a beautiful self contained apartment/home on the north side of Moorea. The property was incredibly clean and very well looked after. It is designed and decorated in a traditional Polynesian style, with open air access and comfortable facilities. An amazing, beautiful beach with rays and sharks is only a few minutes away. Michelle and her husband are amazing hosts. We were given snorkelling gear, BBQ gear, and also bicycles. I would stay here again, happily.
Papetoai
Our stay exceeded our expectations. We stayed in an over the water bungalow (breathtaking) and also a garden bungalow (tranquil). Both were outstanding. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating throughout our stay. The daily happy hour was a nice plus and the morning breakfast had an array of options to meet our needs. Hotel also had snorkeling and boating equipment for use at our disposal. Definitely plan on staying here again on our next stay in Moorea.
Maharepa
This is a fantastic place to stay on Moorea. It is very comfortable for two couples. It has separated bedrooms with a bath on each end. The shared living space was excellent. Right on the beach with a lovely deck. Good views and swimming. A real bonus was meeting the family that owns it. We had great visits with Jay, one of the original Bali Hai Boys. It was so fun to get some island history from him and his family. Close to shops and hotels and dining.
My daughter and I were sad to leave Hotel Fenua Mataioa. We stayed 3 nights. It is probably one of the most beautiful garden oasis on the island that is right on the water. It’s quiet, very clean and the owner and staff are very friendly. We are now at Hotel Hibiscus- huge mistake!!! Thankfully we are moving to The Hilton Tahiti tonight although we would love to go back to Hotel Fenua Mataioa. Thank You for making our time on Moorea very enjoyable.
Teavaro
The place is very clean, and everything worked well. The location is very close to the best beach in all of Moorea. I would suggest renting a car/scooter (the hotel can help with that) as getting around the island without one is difficult. The owners are incredibly hospitable and went above and beyond what they needed to do to make my stay excellent! Would definitely be back here again.
Moorea
This is the best accommodation I have stayed in whilst travelling French Polynesia, it’s so affordable and the amenities are perfect. The staff help you with anything you need and let you treat their home like your own. They are so friendly! You have access to laundry , tv with Netflix etc and they even helped me rent a bike. Very comfortable stay! Made my visit to Moorea perfect 😍
Moorea
Tucked away at the base of the mountains, this location is luscious & peaceful. Very close to an incredible public beach, 30 minute walk or 10 minute bike ride. The open kitchen is great for cooking any meal & the hostel beds are very private :) Marie is amazing & will assist in any way to make your stay comfortable. Moorea is heaven & I loved staying here!!!
Fantastic location and views, great facilities, very welcoming and communicative. Having lost all the money on the bank card to the Booking.com hackers, Claude from Moorea Island Beach Hotel was kind enough to reimburse the cost of our stay and help us in the best way possible during our stay.
Haapiti
Lovely setting in a beautiful part of Moorea, quiet and peaceful in front of a lagoon with plenty of snorkelling opportunities, swimming, sunset etc… The couple who run the hotel were exceptionally hospitable and kind; well over and above what we expected. Highly recommended in every way.
Haapiti
The hotel is located next to les tipaners beach, which is one of the nicest ones in Moorea. The bungalow we rented was really comfortable, and equipped with washing machine and drier which was a blessing! Overall it was a great stay
A super value for a great location. Everyone at the hotel was great and very helpful. The room was excellent as was the pool, restaurant and happy hour. Perfect place to stay on Moorea.
Moorea
great people , nice welcome and advice on the location and activities etc available. Great pizzeria underneath. Easy parking . Good simple apartment , good value in moorea .
A waterfront bungalow with a deck? We absolutely loved it. We wanted a waterfront experience without paying the crazy high prices of an overwater bungalow, and this was an awesome option for a good price! I don't really understand the negative reviews of this place. If you read the description and listen to the check-in instructions upon your arrival, everything is made super clear! Yes, it's by the road, as are most of the houses and hotels on this island since the road follows the coastline. Yes, there are some bugs, but that's what's to be expected when you're staying on a tropical island. No, there's no beach (as you can see in the photos), and there really only are a couple of beaches on the entire island, but there's a dock you can swim off of and amazing snorkeling just outside your bedroom door. What more could you ask for? Our bed had a mosquito net and a fan kept us nice and cool in the evenings. The staff was incredibly kind and informed us of the meal times upon our arrival. Most of the island follows those same meal times too. I highly recommend!
