Situated in Aso, 42 km from Kumamoto Castle, Syukubo Aso features accommodation with a public bath. Wow, this place is amazing! The food is so good and of such great quality. After breakfast I was excited for diner, and again already excited for breakfast. The Japanese style rooms are very clean and comfortable. The staff is as well very friendly and helpful. Can strongly recommend and will come again.

Built in 1722, Okyakuya is situated in the historical district of Kurokawa Onsen district. Located only 100 metres from Kurokawa Onsen, Free WiFi is provided and private parking is available on site. We loved everything. But the onsen was probably the best part.

Minshuku Asogen, a property with a garden, is situated in Aso, 30 km from Egao Kenko Stadium Kumamoto, 38 km from Kumamoto Castle, as well as 38 km from Suizenji Park. We had breakfast and dinner and they were both excellent meals. Meals were served in private dining rooms. Loved the private onsen that had a separate powder room and shower/onsen bath. Also was very happy to have a toilet in the room and not shared. Very well organized place. Best stay during our trip. Very relaxing and private.

Kurokawa Onsen Yama no Yado Shinmeikan features 5 hot-spring baths, including a 30-metre long cave bath. We spent 3 nights at the Sotetsu Fresa Inn Nihonbashi Kayabacho hotel after arriving in Japan (There is another Fresa Inn in the area, so make sure this is where you have your reservation). It is a relatively modern, functional hotel sometimes referred to as a business hotel.  The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very small as is typical in Tokyo but very clean and functional.  The hotel is convenient to Tokyo station (20 minutes walking as a reference). After arriving on the Narita Express or by others means to Tokyo station, follow signs to the Tozai line (sky blue) subway. The easiest way to know which direction to go is to look at the numbers representing the stops.  The Tokyo station stop at Otemachi is T-9 and you want to go to T-7 Kayabacho. Leave the Kayabacho subway station via Exit 7 and the hotel is just around the corner.  From Kayabaco or the nearby Nihonbashi station, you can get all around Tokyo on the highly efficient subway system.  Use a Suica, Welcome Suica or Pasmo card to enter and exit subways and avoid the hassle of figuring out which ticket to buy or how much they coat. Just tap and go.  Enjoy. Kokura,Onsen EXPERIENCE JAPAN LIKE THE JAPANESE We decided to spend a couple of days in central Kyushu to enjoy a traditional Japanese ryokan experience. Boy, was that a great call! I88We stayed at the Yama no Yado Shinmeikan  in the Kokura Onsen area, which is an hour north of Aso city by bus. The ryokan is 130 years old but is clean and well-maintained. It features a total of 5 unique onsens, including one carved into a cave.  The ambiance is terrific and the staff is super friendly and helpful.  The ryokan is located along a flowing river and the sound of running water adds to the relaxing quality of the stay.  (The Fuji room is best). All accommodations are traditional Japanese tatami rooms which are made up for sleep each night by the staff as you enjoy the onsen baths.

Situated along Tanohara River and surrounded by tranquil nature in Kurokawa Onsen hot spring area, Oku no Yu Ryokan offers charming Japanese-style accommodation and various hot spring baths. Beautiful location, lovely experience. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic. Clean, large rooms and friendly staff made this stay perfect. The onsen is fabulous.

Located in the centre of Kurokawa Onsen, Oyado Noshiyu offers outdoor and indoor hot-spring baths, Japanese-style accommodations and a traditional teahouse. Everything was more tan perfect. We had an amazing stay here. Staff was extremely friendly, food was fantastic, breakfast was so relaxing atmosphere. The Onsens were soo relaxing. It was like you just stay in a forest with nothing else around you. Relly recommend to everyone who wants to enjoy a Ryokan Onsen at its best

Everything; the hospitality of the staff, kaiseki in private dining room, the room, and private onsen.

Surrounded by forest, tranquil Yamashinobu features public and private hot spring baths, an astronomical observatory and a piano. Perfect example of rustic Japanese luxury. The staff welcomed us warmly, and made us feel at ease, even as English speakers (thank you Hiyashita-san!) with limited Japanese. Loved the thoughtful meals and happy we booked the room type with a private onsen. The shared onsen and irori were also charming. Even though the ryokan was fully booked, the common areas felt peaceful and never busy. The ryokan has its own rice field, too.

Boasting spacious indoor and outdoor hot spring baths surrounded by lush greenery, Ryokan Wakaba provides Japanese-style accommodation in the peaceful mountain area. Room was spacious and comfortable. Dinner was beautifully presented, with a hit of fusion elements, and every dishes tasted great! Outdoor onsens were beautiful. The staffs were also very kind and friendly.
