The 2nd largest Czech city, Brno is a centre of Moravian culture, surrounded by lush countryside. The twin spires of the hilltop Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul dominate the neighbouring Bishops Palace, while the nearby square houses the Moravia Museum and Reduta Theatre, both the oldest in the country.
Beneath the square is Brno Underground, a maze of medieval tunnels and cellars that once housed wine produced in the surrounding region. There is an annual wine festival here, but the largest event is the Ignis Brunensis fireworks competition by Brno Lake to the north-west, lined by trees that hide Veveří Castle.
A less grand castle - Špilberk - sits on a hill in the city centre. At its feet is Masaryk University, the 2nd largest in the Czech Republic. The city’s Mendel University is named after the genetics founder who was abbot of St Thomas’ Abbey, where a museum commemorates his work.
The nearby Brno Exhibition Centre is of functionalist design, but the most important example of this architectural style is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Villa Tugendhat. On the opposite side of the city is Masaryk Circuit, home of the Czech MotoGP.
The Brno accommodation on Booking.com includes cheap hostels near the train station, guest houses near Freedom Square and hotels by Brno-Tuřany Airport.
Brno is a lovely place to visit. A very good mix of the old (castle, cathedral and old town) and the new (everything you'd expect in a university town), but without all the tourists of Prague - it's more school trips than tour guides. Lots of interesting history including that this is where Gregor Mendel did his work that lead to the theory of genetics. Worth doing: the cathedral towers for the views, the town hall and tower, the castle (great views and lovely cafes). The trams go everywhere and a day ticket (on sale at tourist information in town hall) is cheap. Visitors from UK will appreciate a big Tesco behind the main station (get yourself a CZ Clubcard). Local (Moravian) food is hearty and filling and the beers are good and cheap, with plenty of bars and restaurants in the town centre. Late-opening ice cream shops are a bonus!

Very interesting city with its own unique personality.
Very interesting city with its own unique personality. Great activities for kids, such as Science museum or Observatory. Nice parks, city centre and other nice squares. I recommend Soul Bistro and Jean Paul's restaurant. Excellent food with even better service. The city centre is small so we walked everywhere with no problem.

The more you visit Brno, the better it gets.
The more you visit Brno, the better it gets. Compared to Prague, there could be no more distant twins - same state, same geographical topology, yet so much different history, mixture of cultures, peoples.
Beautiful, not very large room with a stylish bathroom. Amenities provided, everything very clean. Breakfast is amazing: great choice and variety, along with impeccable quality.
The bar/restaurant is quite pricey (for Czech Republic), but the quality is very high, with decent portion sizes.
The best thing about the hotel is the staff, receptionists are always smiling and forthcoming, but the best part are the waiters&waitresses at the bar/restaurant. Sasha is amazing, and her male counterparts are pleasant as well!
Wonderful location at the Cabbage Market Square, the heart of Brno, very pleasant and helpful staff, comfy room with hot water kettle and coffee and tea. The room was toasty warm with a soft carpet and a huge flat screen TV for entertainment. The bathroom was very spacious with a great walk in shower and also perfect heating. The hotel itself is in a beautiful palace with perfect decor and luxurious style, very elegant and comfortable, gives you an exceptional feel.
Very clean and comfortable rooms. Friendly personnel at the reception and in the restaurant. We had the dinner in the hotel's restaurant and the quality of food as well as the service was good. Breakfast was nice, although simple porigge was not available Hotel is located in the new business area with very convenient connection to the highways, so excellent option for transit travellers. City centre is in the walking proximity (15-20 min walk).
+ Room was decently-seized, the bed was really comfy.
+ Location is the best, close to everything in the city centre, Tourist Information is 2 min walk from the hotel.
+ Breakfast was great, various choices for omnivores and vegetarians, probably less options for vegans.
+ The staff was very friendly, check-in and check-out went fast and smoothly.
The view is Wonderful.
The place is a resort, so many services within the hotel to relax and enjoy your free time.
Surrounded by nature, you can go for a hike or walk around the lake.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The food in the restaurant was really delicious with good prices.
The reception man was extremely kind and helpful. We got city maps too. The hotel is marvelous, I felt myself like in a palace!
The heating was excellent, the breakfast was various, the location was amazing, in the city center, but in a silent street. I highly recommend it for everyone!
My room was beautiful and newly-furnished. Everything was clean. Tasty breakfasts. Staff and manager of the hotel were kind and helpful. Near the building there is a tram stop and a direct tram to the main station and the city centre. I recommend this place!
Location is great 5-10 minutes walk from the main TRAIN station as well as the GRAND hotel bus station... next to each other. Our room was looking out onto Zelny Trh (vegetables & fruits)
Old colonial charm was why we chose this hotel.
Hotel was very clean and the breakfast was good. The restaurant wasn't open I the evening "for technical reasons". Whilst being proud of the use of space by the architect, it doesn't lend itself to customer comfort ie. very cramped.
Very convenient location in the city centre.
The bed is easily the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, in a hotel or otherwise. It was like being in a cloud.
Cool decor and very clean.
I will absolutely stay here again.
Loved how close it was to the city Centre and not too far away from train station either. Definitely enjoyed the beer brewery and spa facilities, which were the main reason we booked the hotel.
The hotel is situated close to the city centre, tram stop is very close. The hotel is quite small and was very quiet, ideal for taking test after a busy day. It was clean and comfortable.
Hotel location just in the city centre, close to the station. Rooms are spacious including bathroom. Breakfast very nice. Parking space just in front of the hotel
Perfect location near main train station. Very large room. Breakfast was one of the best! I really liked the breakfast. Hotel staff are kind and helpful.
The hotel is clean new, very nice big bed, spacious room. Small but good gym on the rooftop. The location is not central we, but easy to get everywhere.
Very clean, smart hotel, friendly helpful staff. A good place to stay. Quiet location, plenty of parking. Regular bus to city centre. Lovely breakfast.
