Blois beautifully lines the Loire Valley with a sublime combination of nature and architecture. Standing between Orléans and Tours, two other Loire Valley gems, Blois - the most important city of Loir-et-Cher -enjoys its proximity to the agricultural Beauce area and Sologne forest.
Slate tiles and tuffeau stones, a pattern reminiscent of the Loire Valley, are prominent in Blois and the old town is full of charming houses. Blois train station is near the Gothic Renaissance Castle of Blois, considered one of architecture’s masterpieces. Originally occupied by King Louis XII, it is nowadays partly taken over by the Museum of Art, offering a collection of paintings, sculptures and ancient tapestries. The royal gardens also evoke the Renaissance and provide a lovely view of the city. Other gardens invite you to enjoy the magical scenery by the Loire river.
Walk 2 minutes more towards the commercial street to discover the House of Magic, a unique example in Europe of its genre. The township of Blois is gorgeous, the accommodation was clean and roomy, quiet and a short walk to all amenities. The area as a whole is gorgeous. The car park is confusing and a little distant. It also makes you feel welcome if a few extras are provided however this accommodation was sparse. Some places offer a little extra such as oil, salt and pepper, enough toilet paper for your stay which makes the difference. On the whole a lovely place to stay.

A historic and friendly town close to many of the most visited chateaux on the Loire. The town has its own chateau, which is well worth a visit as it is so well presented. Of note was the quality of information in English there. We also visited the Maison de la Magie, which was amusing, but I wouldn't rush back. There are lots of old streets to explore and plenty of places to eat and drink. If you're going by car, research about parking first. We kept our car at the Halle du Grains, which was a hike from the Hotel, but good value and we got used to the commute.Arthur - 10Scored 10

The views of the city from the left bank were beautiful.Despite the heat we enjoyed visiting the Chateau and the old town and it was all within walking distance. Historically interesting with a great deal of impressive architecture. Easy to walk around although cobbled streets as in many old places in France are hard on the feet! Eating places expensive but authentic and with good atmospheres and friendly people. In all a very attractive small city to visit.
