What a beautiful place! The perfect combination of a lovely , small Italian city with a stunning lakeside panorama. We especially enjoyed the opportunity to walk along the lake shore. Great choice of restaurants and bars. The castle is well worth a visit.

A nice medieval small town with much to see and with a very nice, mostly car free town centre. The castle with a local museum, the churches, the ruins of the Roman predecessor town, the lakeside area and harbour are all worth a visit. Extending on both sides of the central sqare, the main street is a pedestrian zone with lots of shops and restaurants. There was even a Ferris wheel at the harbour!
There are public buses (Contral) connecting to Viterbo, Montefiascone and a number of smaller towns, and an early morning connection (Busitalia) to Orvieto. All at bargain prices, tickets can be bought at the kiosk in the town center. Even if it runs early, the bus trip to Orvieto is highly recommendable! It starts from the main square, the others from the bus stop near the post office. Only the connection to Bagnoregio, operated by a local bus contractor, did not work out as the internet schedule was wrong.
There are a number of walking paths in the vicinity - a well marked pilgrim route to Rome goes through Bolsena. We also walked a bit along the lake shore in southern direction; in northern direction, the path ends at the end of the town area.
Boat tours on the Lago di Bolsena are theoretically possible, but there seems to be no organized schedule. In summer, bathing in the lake at the beach should be nice, but at end of April, it was a bit too cold.

an ancient and intersting small typically Italian town.
an ancient and intersting small typically Italian town. Excellent places to eat and drink, friendly people and, of course, a beautiful lake. This is a place to visit for sure. Stay somewhere between 3 and 6 nights to get a proper flavour of the place.Take a walk to the top of the town (steep but worth it) and reward yourself with a glass of wine when you get to the top at one of the many excellent wine bar/delis.
Two restaurants stand out. La Francigena (for its pizza and traditional ham hock called Stinco) and La Tavernetta for its pizza and pasta with fish from the lake. They are inexpensive for the quality of food.
Drive around the lake to see the antique towns of Montefiascone and Capo de Monte. Have a walk along he promenade at Marta. Continue your circuit and have lunch at one of the lakeside restaurants near the ad hoc marina ten minutes west of Bolsena. Its a lovely way to spend a day. At Bolsena there are a number of lakeside bars and restaurants all of which are good value and a great place to unwind. The lake is very safe to swim in. It is very shallow for some distance from shore so is great for children and weak swimmers like me. Very refreshing on a hot day!!

A very charming small italian city with very attractive view of the lake at the sunset. Food in the restaurants is good and value for money is also goo there. The evening life at the square near the lake is live with several nice bars and the seatings really close to the lake so that you can even wash your feet there. Another remarkable cisty Orvietto is also in the short driving distance.

Bolsena is a lakeside small town.
Bolsena is a lakeside small town. We stopped there to relax in mid-October in route to Rome. In the summer I am certain it is bustling with vacationers but there is really nothing to do if you are not boating. The one historic site, the Rocca Fortress, was closed. Dinner in a lakeside restaurant had a lovely sunset view but the food was average.

Lovely old town with great restaurants and quirky shops.
Lovely old town with great restaurants and quirky shops. Nice promenade by the lake. Worth taking a trip round the lake by car and visit to Bagnioreggio a nearby local ancient town accessible only on foot via a bridge over a ravine.
Meridiiano 12 located on the hill above the lake. it”s distanced from noise of cities. We were along there and enjoyed our privacy and view to the lake. Our apartments had two floors with huge hall on the first floor and small kitchen in the closet. there is a spacious picnic area in front of the house with benches and tables. and there is a place for barbecue but we didn’t have time to use it. Recommending this place for those who love relaxing on the nature. If you need something- the city Bolsena is 8 minutes away by car.
We loved everything about our stay at Casa Wafira. Viola and her family shared their home with us, their friends, pets, homegrown food, beach parasol - anything we could possibly need.
The garden lets you relax completely, swaying in the hammock in the shade beneath leafy trees while watching Lago di Bolsena glimmering in the distance.
Bolsena, a lovely village, is around 3 km away. The small beach on the lake is about 800m walk down the quiet lane.
Our only wish is that we didn't have to leave.
Without doubt one of the best experience across the entire Italy! Getting to stay at a 16th century building with tonnes of history and characters is as surreal as it gets. The place is very clean and well kept, the bed was very comfortable, the room is lovely. More importantly the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We couldn't be happier with our wine tasting experience. The sommelier, he was so knowledgable, so friendly, very generous with his pour and very generous with his time.
The old building is very well refurbished, decorated, and picturesque. The breakfast was excellent, with a lot of different options, served in a very beautiful room. The staff was very helpful. We arrived there late at night, travelling by car through a very heavy storm, and the owners were waiting for us and guide us until we safely arrived, and park inside the hotel's parking.
Great location - easy to get around Bolsena from here - either to the lake or to the castle. Rooms and linens are clean and fresh. Fantastic terrace with view of the lake or of the castle. Head up to the terrace in the evening to watch the sunset with your favorite refreshments.
This is our second time staying here, we really loved staying at the property. It is spacious, clean, well equipped and the bed is very comfortable. Great location near the castle in the old town with a great balcony with a spectacular view over Bolsena and the lake.
We had a room and a separate bathroom, but the (very friendly, very open) owner arranged for privacy so it almost felt like an apartment. We had the use of a terrace which was a great plus. The location is very convenient, both for the old town and the lake.
Hotel Patani is in a great location, on the edge of the historic centre and a very short walk from the waterfront. Our room had a large balcony which was a lovely place to enjoy a meal and relax, with a great view of the old town up the hill..
Really nice hotel right on the lake (Bolsena), very friendly stuff, plenty of parking space, secured and coverd for Motorcycle).
Room was very cozy with a/c and Frigor, comfy bad and clean.
Plus really nice Restaurat on location.
Waterfront location, we booked a room with a balcony, on request staff supplied a bottle of wine so we could sit out and watch the sun go down over the lake. A nice hotel at a reasonable price. Pleasant staff.
First at all the staff, very cooperative and helpful.
The restaurant service very good and an exceptional flavors in food, specially the local Lake fish, good wine and an excellent breakfast.
Fantastic location!
In the middle of nature, near a lake, very quiet.
Kind host, but he was busy all the time (granted, it was springtime, with lot of work to do outside)
Nice location by the lake. Breakfast was good and convenient parking in the area. Good value for money spent. Definitely a place to recommend for a relaxing weekend!
Very clean and comfortable hotel right next to the lake, very friendly staff. You find everything needed for breakfast. Highly recommend it for a relaxed stay
