Nice place to stay while visiting sites in North Iceland.
Nice place to stay while visiting sites in North Iceland. We were able to see the Northern lights while there in early October, but our lodging was slightly out of the main city lights. Nice restaurants and easy to walk around. Botanical garden was a very nice place.

Great place for a day trip, or two.
Great place for a day trip, or two. Limited eating options (compared to Reykjavik). The lagoons (Forest lagoon / Myvatn) are worth a visit. There are of course also some nearby waterfalls. There's a fantastic petting zoo which is definitely not to be missed.

Nice small city . Surprisingly bug infested in late summer.
Nice small city . Surprisingly bug infested in late summer. Wonderful sights nearby. Very few free parking lots . Dettifoss was awe inspiring. There are steam venting sites worth visiting. There are crevasses separating American and European plates you can walk across caves and crevasses where Game of Thrones was filmed . Restaurant 23 is a great fish restaurant

Akureyri is a beautiful little town in N. Iceland.
Akureyri is a beautiful little town in N. Iceland. Super picturesque, at the base of a fjord. We booked a whale watching tour with Keli Sea Tours and saw humpback whales.
Everything is walkable and there are some great restaurants, especially Strikið, where I had the best piece of salmon I have ever eaten.
The botanical garden is free and beautiful. The kids loved the little Christmas house on the edge of town.
If you are driving the ring road, you must stop here!

We was looking for local food but no one. we could find only pizza, burger, fried chicken restaurant. And we was found food truck which owner is very rude, we not recommend there but anyway bakery at the corner was very good.
Amazing accommodation. The room was elegant with huge windows and a seating area, perfect for hot tea on a snowy day to work on my computer. The bathroom had everything I needed to feel right at home. The location was excellent. One block to the public pools which I visited every night of my stay. Also an easy walk to the harbor, shops, cafes and restaurants. Tea and coffee available all day in the lobby. Breakfast was wonderful and the coffee maker divine.
The room facilities were quite good and up to a standard you would expect from higher graded hotels. The big problem was the room size! The breakfast was provided by Restaurant North in the main hotel (Hotel Akureryi) and wasn’t in the price ( but some people seem to have a limited breakfast package). That said the Restaurant North provided a lovely varied Icelandic fare for the 5 days we were there (at extra cost but very reasonable).
Friendly, great food, wonderful hospitality and beautiful location. 10 min to downtown Akureyri and 50 min to Godafoss. We were right on the water, clean and cozy rooms, nice hot tub and great restaurant. Wonderful breakfast in the morning with fruits, veggies, breads, jams, pancakes with Nutella, and amazing coffee and teas. We loved our stay there. Great for families. Wish we booked 2 nights.
The owner was quick and quite kind. The property itself was much larger than expected and very quiet and the view of the city from our room at night was beautiful. The beds were some of the comfiest we had experience in all of Iceland. The breakfast was very nice with a decent amount of selection for a small hotel. Overall a must stay. We will be coming back next year!
The best thing was that when I asked them to make me glutenfree portions they did and they were good! Also the young man in the reception was always nice and helpfull. The room with own bathroom was nice, the room without it wasn´t that nice but ok. The breakfast was ok considering how small guesthouse this was. The views near hotel and from the windows was perfect!
The location was very convenient, a short walk from the central restaurants/bars but just distant enough to not be noisy, and just off the main road (1). The quality of the breakfast food was very high (but a la carte, not a buffet like most hotels). Getting the PIN to unlock our room by text was very convenient for arriving late.
Brand new cottage with high end finishes and a fantastic view over the valley to Akureyri and the mountains beyond. The staff was very friendly, and the breakfast included with the stay was quite good. We had a lovely soak in the private hot tub on the balcony. We wish we could have stayed longer.
Room was perfect with an amazing view of the snowy mountains. Reception and bar staff were always really helpful and friendly. The food in the restaurant was amazing, everything tasted great and breakfast downstairs was equally good, with a decent range of vegan and meat options.
Because of Covid we have been given another room in Hotel Akureyri Dynheimar. Because the room was to small for our luggage (inkl. stuff to eat) we asked for a bigger room. Luckily we got an apartment and had a very nice experience there. Thank you so much for your flexibility!
It's all about the location: the hotel is on the main street, right next to many restaurants and shops.
The room was clean, with modern facilities.
We were allowed to use the washing machine, which was very helpful.
Breakfast was good (served at the restaurant downstairs).
We use this apartment hotel almost always we travel to Akureyri. The location is great. In the center of town and close to the great swimming pool. The rooms are spacious and guest beds are great for teenagers. Good to have a fridge as well.
Location was outstanding, in the heart of town, next to restaurants, shops, and at the foot of the iconic church. Breakfast was excellent, staff was efficient at check-in for our large group, and rooms were perfectly comfortable.
The restaurant on the bottom floor of the hotel is exceptional. Some of the best food we had in Iceland! Location is ideal, right in the middle of the city. Would recommend!
