nice old city centre but without any highlights (architecture, shops, etc) the Andersen museum is very informative in the middle of the island Funen, so most other locations on the island are in reach for a visit
The Funen Village was an excellent resource. We had a great day out here. The local transport is simple to use and there are plenty of supermarkets for stocking up on supplies.
Lots of historic sights and beautiful old streets. The Hans Christian Andersen museum and Funen village are very good. The Citypass is good value and provides transport and entrance to the various museums and Funen village.
It is not all about what you should see in Nyborg! Nyborg is a great place to start off. We have plenty of hotels. Downtown, at the beach, in the woods - next to the public indoor swimming pools (with playground and a dozen other facilities). Nyborg has been the capitol of Denmark in the 14-hundreds and you really should see Nyborg Slot (Slot = Castle) along with the defense lines along the moat. Odense is about 30 minutes away by car and 15 minutes by train - and is kind of a small version of Copenhagen. Svendborg is also a very nice place. Same style as Nyborg and great places to dine. Nyborg also casts one of the worlds longest suspension bridges. It is not free to cross - but you can watch it from the beach. Traffic to and from Sealand/Copenhagen pass the bridge - so if you arrive at Copenhagen Airport, you will cross it. Don't expect a lot of stuff going on during nighttime and late evenings in the weekends. When shops and attractions closes, so does the city. Expect a place to relax, a place for a good walk and a place for an ice cream at the harbor. To get around the island of Funen, I recommend a car. Public transport does exist (to some extent) but you can easily get stuck somewhere as there very well may be two hours between buses and your trip will take forever because they stop all the time. If you plan on staying in Nyborg I recommend a bike. Odense is easiest to access by train. Shopping in Odense inner city is easiest to acces by train, but keep Rosengaardcentret in mind, which is a quite large shopping centre where you really would like to go by car ;-) Enjoy :-)
Odense is H.C. Andersen's birthplace. Anyone who is into literature and fairy tales, will love the place. Do take a themed walk around the city (just follow the huge steps on the pavement from A to B). Another great place in Odense is the Funen Village (Den Fynske Landsby), an open-air museum with over 20 traditional Danish houses. You can enter most of them and see what it was like to live in the 18-19th centuries. Live cattle, ducks and hens are an additional bonus.
It is a nice town with a lot of history. A good base to explore Funen Unfortunately we were there on a Sunday and Monday. Museum and Hans Christian Anderson house closed on Mondays so didn't see it.
Quaint smalltown with lovely wiews over Lilla Bält and its bridges. Café Razz on the harbourfront is excellent. Middelfart is particularly well located as a base for exploring Funen and Jutland.
Nice little Danish Town with nice port, good restaurants, an impressive Castle next to it and access to the south Funen hiking trail.
Bogense is 1 hr and 15min drive from Billund airport and nearly 2hr from Roskilde in the other direction so fairly central. The town is pretty, and has some great history. The harbour is very nice, but a lot of the restaurants were shut during our visit, but they looked very nice. We did end up one night with an Familie Deal pizza and had opted for the 60cm and chips, it really is huge and we didn’t finish it. There are better beaches a short drive away, and the very best one we found was at Fredericia, the kids loved it. Flying Sands beach on Funen was nice enough but the facilities and whole area of Fredericia was outstanding. The bridge toll over the Great Belt is 240 kroner each way making a day trip possible but expensive, we had originally planned to go for two days but the cost changed out mind.
Visit the Taurus Steak House. Great restaurant. For a day trip I recommend Egeskov Castle (30 miles). Includes outdoor areas, a large car museum and the elaborate dollhouse (Titania' s Palace) with it's rich detail (an absolute work of art), The Funen Village in Odense is also worth a visit for anyone interested in a how life was a century or so ago, Plenty of farm animals for the childrens' viewing.
Hesselager
quiet family camping site on always beautiful Funen. the cabins are located in a separate spot. staff friendly on the phone and good instructions.
Great hotel! Good value for money and would love to stay there again. Travelled for work and had a truck but the outdoor parking was spacious. Would also go here with my family. Very nice views!
I traveled alone for business in Odense, and the hotel was the perfect solution. It is very close to the train station, the room itself was clean, the hotel staff were very friendly, and surprisingly the room was very well insulated from outside noise. The bed itself was comfortable, the bathroom also very manageable, and the room made great use of the small space. Also, there are plenty of shops and transit options from right outside the hotel. Cannot recommend enough.
Breakfast was great with good low carb options. All fresh and good quality. Great value for money.
Superb breakfast served on sunday from 8:00, lots of possibilities to choose from. Big parking place. Simple and clean room with shower. Great communication, friendly staff. After a phone call to the hotel with information about our approximate arrival time, we have been allowed to accomodate a bit later than stated in general conditions.
Amazing reception at front desk, fantastic, large, classy room, excellent shower, awesome views, beautiful location, extremely helpful staff. couldn’t be better. it’s rated 4 stars, but I would easily give it 5.
If you want to treat yourself, this is the place to do it. The castle was stunning as well as the room. The food was delicious, and the location and surroundings were like from a movie. Very friendly staff too! I'm definitely coming back. It's more than worth it.
Quiet area, very good and varied breakfast. The dining room with a beautiful view on the bay. The staff were very helpful. I was visiting the place during its renovation, but it did not interfere with my stay.
nice and clean. Good location.
Mostly a conference hotel, located in an astonishingly beautiful setting ion the middle of a stately seaside park. Our rooms were basic but functional (after all, it's mainly a conference hotel). Don't forget to reserve your dinner table at the hotel restaurant, the food is excellent and alternatives few and far between. Staff is very friendly.
great corner room with extra space and a small mini fridge. Nice breakfast part of a bigger hotel. Don't miss the marina museum nearby.
The location was perfect, it was not so far from sea and we took a walks each evening to the beach. Food was great only in breakfast there were very limited options. Room looked much better that in pictures. Interior of the hotel was amazing with many locations to sit, read a look and have a dinner.
Comfortable, spacious & beautiful wheelchair accessible room, lovely views from the room, cleanliness👌🏽, very friendly and helpful staff, great breakfast and meals. I enjoyed reading the history about the place too.
The Rom was very Nice, the staf were kind and the breakfast was good.
Position. Views were superb. Private garden room with access to the main garden was peaceful.
- close to supermarket - very entertaining for children - clean and spacious enough cabin - very good value for money - excellent kitchen set up/kit included in price - great for commuting to Odense for day trips
The Breakfast was good, The hotel has been completely renovated to a very high standard.
Wonderful location and service. There are lots of activities and staff was very kind and helpful. We had an A+ hut with two bedrooms
